Film Magazine Research

The masthead of a film magazine is often very large and consists of bold colours such as red or blue that can catch the eye of the audience due to its contrast with the background. It is also placed slightly behind the main character making it look like it’s a part of the scene with them and showing that the character or actor on the front is the most important part of the magazine. This draws the attention of fans of the film or the actor as they will look to the magazine and buy it to find out things about them.

The tagline is a short one liner or sentence that can attract an audience to the magazine quickly since it is often one of the first things they read on the front cover. This makes them want to continue reading.

The pug is used to advertise a main story inside of the magazine; this is done because it is one of the first things that are seen so it can draw in readers quickly.

Puffs draw attention to certain sections of a magazine cover by making the text stand out more; this is done by making the text into a shape or adding a sticker.

Cover lines that advertise other films draw in wider audiences as people who are interested in those films will want to read on.

Institutional information makes the magazine appear more professional and worth the readers money to purchase.

Persuasive techniques can encourage readers to read on by suggesting that you can’t find the information in any other magazine.
